What is required by COSHH?
The main principle of COSHH is to protect people against health risks arising from exposure to hazardous substances. In relation to those hazardous substances which can be inhaled, protection is achieved by the provision of local exhaust ventilation (LEV).
REGULATION 9
COSHH requires that all control measures, including LEV plant:
- Be thoroughly examined and tested at least once every 14 months. This period is shorter for some substances and processes.
- Be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in a good state of repair (consult IFS).
- Should keep a record of the thorough examination and test for at least 5 years
What IFS can offer
IFS are able to offer a full 'Test and Examination Scheme' to establish initial air flow rates, volumes and system pressures, including a system schematic in line with COSHH Regulation 9 (paragraphs 64 and 65 of the approved code of practice). This would form the basis from which subsequent checks would be compared.
