ATEX is a European Directive that covers equipment and protective systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
It affects manufacturers, suppliers, owners and users of items that are intended to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres.
European Directive 1999/92/ECdeals with protection of workers from potentially explosive atmospheres and requires risk assessment and zone classification as follows :-
- All new factories will need to be zoned from 1st July 2003
- All EXISTING FACTORIES will need to be zoned from 1St JULY 2006
IFS are able to advise on ATEX and the requirements of the directives. Statistics about dust explosion occurrence per type of equipment, indicates that dust collectors account for some 17% of explosions. With over 20 years experience, IFS will always offer best engineering practice when tackling explosive dusts or gases and we recognise the risks and consequences of secondary explosions which can be devastating.
